10 Most Ticketed Cars in America
Over the past couple of days there have been a few articles released about the 10 most ticketed cars, so in a journalistic sense, I decided to put my own spin on things. After looking over the list I was honestly confused at some of the selections and others, not so much so. In all honesty, the articles state that the “drivers” have tickets on their records, not the cars themselves, so I’m not too sure how accurate this list really is because I know there are other cars that get ticketed more often.
10. Mazda Mazda2
Coming in at the number 10 spot is the Mazda2, which is a small, cheap economy car. After looking at the engine and drivetrain info, I noticed that this car comes equipped with a mere 100 horsepower (hp). For those who are not into cars, this means that this car barely has enough power to get out of its own way. It is very slow and has little power, so I’m surprised it made it onto this list.
9. Toyota FJ Cruiser
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a bulky and ugly (in my opinion) SUV, but is reliable and has had good sales numbers. These trucks are not fast by any means, so I’m not sure how many tickets people driving these actually get, but apparently 28.4% of their owners have received tickets.
8. Scion TC
Scion’s TC is one of the more popular cars on the road today, and if you notice, the average drivers of these cars are in the 18-25 age demographic. The TC is a good selling car and will continue to be, but 28.8% of their drivers have been ticketed. This is not the only Scion listed on this list.
7. Mercury Topaz/Ford Tempo
This car has been discontinued for 20 years and is very ugly and slow, how did it make this list? Your guess is as good as mine, but nearly 29% of all drivers with this car have received a ticket at some point.
6. Volkswagen Rabbit (Golf)
The Volkswagen Rabbit (now called the Golf) is a car mostly owned by a younger demographic. These owners have been ticketed 29.6%. This car has a number of options, and is fairly quick for what it is. I can see how this car made the list because people who drive this car tend to be aggressive drivers.
5. Subaru Tribeca
29.7% of Subaru Tribeca owners have some sort of moving violation on their driving record. This small SUV is primarily a family vehicle. Maybe it’s just me but with this car on the list I picture a mom or dad getting pulled over for speeding to get their kid to school on time. Maybe that happens, maybe it doesn’t. This car reminds me of Walt’s Pontiac Aztek from Breaking Bad.
4. Toyota Supra
If you are a car enthusiast, I’m sure you have some knowledge, or at least have heard of the Toyota Supra. This car is becoming rarer by the day, and is regarded as one of the best Japanese sports cars ever built. This car being on this list doesn’t really surprise me because they can be modified to be fast… very fast.
3. Scion FR-S
Just like the Scion TC and Volkswagen Golf, the Scion FR-S is driven by a primarily younger demographic. Over 32% of FR-S owners have been ticketed. This is a neat car, and would be fun to drive because it’s light and has rear wheel drive.
2. Pontiac GTO
As a late model GM performance car enthusiast, I was surprised that this car is on the list because it was only made a few years and wasn’t all that popular with the general public. Many people remember the GTO from the 60’s and 70’s, but were unaware that it was remade from 2004-2006. The newer GTO is a powerful car. Depending on the year, the GTO came with an LS1 or LS2 motor (same as the Corvette). This car can get you in trouble. 32.7% of GTO owners have been pulled over and ticketed at some point.
1. Subaru WRX
Concluding our list is the Subaru WRX. The WRX is a great car and can be a lot of fun, but at the same time, that fun can cause trouble. They say cars don’t get tickets but drivers do, I agree and disagree with this. Yes, if you drive irresponsibly you will get caught, but at the same time it is known that certain cars are profiled, such as the WRX. More than one-third of all WRX owners have been ticketed at some point.
Despite the disagreement I may have regarding some of these cars, I believe that cars can’t get you in trouble, but how you drive can. It is important that you drive safely and obey all traffic laws. When it comes to being a responsible driver you need to make sure you have adequate car insurance coverage.
