Hurricane Season is Coming – Are You Ready?
Hurricane season is quickly approaching – the season starts June 1st and doesn’t end until November 30th. During that time, many homeowners and business owners will be preparing in case any make landfall.
It is hard to predict how bad a season will be – some seasons bring many storms, but have little impact, or, like this season’s prediction of fewer storms with major impacts.
For example, the 2014 season had the fewest number of named storms in 17 years, but it also had the strongest hurricane that made landfall in the U.S. in 6 years.
Whatever type of hurricane season is being predicted this year, it is important to be sure that you are prepared in the event of a catastrophe. Underwriters will typically not bind business if a hurricane watch or warning is in effect in the area of concern, and will hold off 72 hours following an actual hurricane.
It is important to understand the limitations within each policy. Different carriers may follow different procedures when a catastrophe arises, so please be sure to call Ion Insurance if you have any questions about your policy.
